Storms cause damage in Terrell Co., road closures

TERRELL CO., GA (WALB) - Authorities confirm that strong winds came through Dawson, ripping off the roof of a Alphabet Academy Daycare on Baldwin Street.

According to Sheriff John Bowens, there were nine children inside but they were safely evacuated and no one was injured.

“So I ran around the building grabbing all the kids and made sure we made it to a safe area. And after that the alarms went off, power went off. But thank God everybody was OK,” Tasha Lane.

Strong wind took roof off of day care center. Mo injuries. At other locations, limbs brought down power lines. Watch for traffic cones at dangerous areas.

Bowens said power lines and trees are reported to be down on Cinderella Lane and possibly 1st Avenue, causing the roads to be blocked.

The Terrell County Middle High School’s power is also out and the students will be released early.

Damage in other areas of Southwest GA

One Adel resident said wind from the storm came through and damaged his property.

The family said strong winds blew their trampoline onto their house, tore their carport/shelter out of the ground, and snapped trees.
