Sumter Co. emergency responders advocate for visible house number signs

AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Getting to your home as soon as possible, that’s the goal of emergency responders.

But if you don't have a good way for responders to find your home, it could cost you precious seconds.

The Sumter 4-H Extension Office is selling blue reflective house number signs.

The goal is to help first responders find you faster and easier in case of an emergency.

Sumter County Battalion Chief Alfred Lewis said signs like these help speed up response times.

“At night, here in Sumter County, we have a lot of roads that is not lighted, intersection, that type of stuff," said Lewis.

If you would like to purchase a sign, contact the Sumter 4-H extension office at (229) 924-4476.

Lewis said a portion of the sales will support the Sumter 4-H program.
