Albany man charged with homicide, DUI-drugs after deadly crash

COFFEE CO., GA (WALB) - The Georgia State Patrol charged an Albany man in connection with a deadly crash in Coffee County that happened in April 2018.

According to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, Jontavius Jamel Keith, 31 of Albany, was arrested, and charged with first degree homicide by vehicle, DUI-drugs, marijuana possession, and multiple traffic violations.

A crash report WALB obtained from the Georgia State Patrol stated the crash happened the morning of April 23, 2018, on Highway 32 West near Bushnell Road.

Troopers said the crash killed Leodigario Martinez Mendez of Appling County.

In the crash report, troopers said Keith was driving east on the highway and swerved multiple times in and out of the westbound lane.

The report said Keith's SUV hit Martinez Mendez's SUV.

According to the crash report, a GBI blood test showed Keith tested positive for cannibinoids.

He was arrested last week, and was being held in the Coffee Co. Jail on a $53,000 property bond.
