AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The Americus Police Department is currently working to find out what prompted a shooting Sunday night that killed one.
It happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 900 block of Parker Street.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Andre Ingram, 34, in the street, with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was treated on scene and then rushed to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, where he later died.
Investigators said a suspect has not been identified at this time.
Neighbors said that after the shooting took place on Parker Street Sunday night, they are fed up with the crime on and are ready to pack up their families and move on.
“There’s a whole lot of shooting going on, because when I first moved here, it was so quiet and peaceful. But now, it’s not like that, like it use to be,” said neighbors Natashia Cooper and Sandra Sims.
Cooper and Sims have been neighbors for four years and said they are worried for their family’s safety after Sunday night’s shooting.
“Their safety, because my kids go up here to the basketball courts and stuff," said Cooper. "It’s not good for them to be coming out and there’s always shooting and stuff going on in this area.”
With Sunday’s incident shaking these women to their core, they said it has them thinking that they’ve had enough.
“We’re thinking about, I’m thinking about seriously moving,' said Cooper. "I don’t know about nobody else. It’s getting kind of rough over here.”
“Yeah me too. Yes, I am too," said Sims. "Yes, I’m planning on moving. Been trying to plan on moving anyway.”
The Americus Police Department is asking that anyone with any information call the Americus Criminal Investigation Division at (229) 924-3677.
