THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Thomasville’s Chad Mascoe Jr. is one of the top football recruits in the class of 2022.
He’s headed to IMG Academy in Florida, considered the class of high school football in the nation.
“The day of the game," Chad’s mother Taneathia Mascoe recalled. "When he came out onto the field, running out to perform, I had already seen a vision.”
Call it intuition, or call it faith, but momma Mascoe knew IMG Academy would be calling for her highly touted quarterback of a son, back when he was 12.
Chad Mascoe, Jr. won MVP at the Future stars game at IMG a few years ago.
When the weekend wrapped up, he set a goal to one day play for the Academy.
Following Mascoe’s freshman season starting at Thomasville, he fielded several Division I offers and a call from IMG.
“It was just a dream come true for me, so I knew I had to,” said Chad.
His mom had to adjust to sending him off to boarding school.
“Just like any other child wanting to go to Disney or Universal Studios, you want to make that happen for your child,” she said.
On to the campus visit, where his dad had the foresight to make sure Chad wouldn't miss out on a high school experience.
“IMG has homecoming, IMG has prom,” said Chad Mascoe, Sr. “Those kids, trust me, are having just as much fun as any other kid around the world, but at the same time they have access to the facilities and the resources.”
Mascoe Sr. has been though this before as a top recruit and as a college football player. He knew all of the questions to ask IMG's staff before feeling comfortable sending Chad off.
“Their job is to make him to be the best Chad Mascoe, and the best quarterback that he can be,” said Mascoe, Sr.
That’s the vision, and vision runs in the Mascoe genes.
It’s what helps the 6 foot 1 signal caller go through his progressions and make the right decision time and time again.
It's the vision that allows Chad to put no limits on how far he can go in football.
“I don’t want to try to be like anybody. I always say I like Cam Newton, I like tom Brady, I like Drew Brees, but I don’t want to be compared to them, I want to be way better than them.”
Mascoe enrolled at IMG Academy Monday.
He plans compete for the starting quarterback job as a sophomore.
