VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Many of our lives have been affected in some way by cancer — whether you have had it yourself or you know someone that has had it.
Horizons Community Solutions in Valdosta invited cancer survivors to an all-day retreat to celebrate survival and to give tips on how to deal with life after treatment.
This year was the first time they hosted the event but attendees are hopeful that it won’t be the last.
“It’s just wonderful. It really gives you an uplifting," said Sara Blansett, a breast cancer survivor. “It gives you the courage to want to move on and just make the best of life that you can make it to be."
South Georgia Medical Center’s Pearlman Cancer Center co-hosted the event at the Rainwater Conference center.
The day was full of food, music and art therapy, a balloon release, fellowship and expert guest speakers.
Organizers said they want to continue the event as an opportunity for survivors to discuss long-term health care needs, learn stress management and improve overall well-being.
