T-SPLOST one step closer to March ballot

DOCO TSPLOST Special Called Meeting

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -After weeks of debate, T-SPLOST is one step closer to being on a special called ballot in March.

Dougherty County commissioners agreed in a 5-1 vote to pass the one cent sales tax in a referendum. Commissioner Gloria Gaines was the lone dissenting vote.

Now, city commissioners will have their chance to do the same.

But the county and the city have to agree to put TSPLOST on a ballot, for residents to then vote on.

T-SPLOST is funding dedicated solely for transportation projects.

“That’s what we’re trying to work through now. We’ve come up with some specific projects we’ll be submitting to the county commission and the general public in the coming days,” said Larry Cook, public works director.

City commissioners will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m.
