ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Lequrica Gaskins is excited to take on the role of Albany’s new downtown manager. Gaskins says she is ready to look at plans and ideas for the downtown area.
“Our first quarter, we expect to look at our master plan, review our master plan and get it up to date, look at projects we can actually implement. I plan to be talking to developers,” says Gaskins.
Gaskins says she has already been asking community members what they want to see in the future for the downtown area.
“Residential living certainly seems to be an interest here in our community. Certainly restaurants. There are some great announcements that are going to take place as it relates to eatery in downtown,” says Gaskins.
Gaskins says it's important to make sure the community is involved when it comes to developing downtown Albany.
“I am very up in terms of not assuming that if we built it, they will come. My notion has always been let’s hear from the community, let’s see what they want. What they will support, and what things they want to see happen," says Gaskins.
Gaskins says she hopes to continue to make the downtown area enjoyable and a place that residents want to bring visitors and family members.
“We all know downtowns are our heartbeat, they are the center heartbeat of the community. It is that place that we bring family, it is a sense of place that we create. We are certainly planning to do that here in the City of Albany," says Gaskins.
