]ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital doctors said that so far they have not seen a great deal of flu cases, but they expect that to change in the next couple of weeks.
Last year, doctors said they saw the same pattern. Very few cases and then suddenly, they were deluged with flu victims.
“It was on immediately,” said Phoebe Medical Director Dr. Eddie Black. “So, we are anticipating kind of that response to be this year. And we are taking steps to be ready for it. Just a large influx of patients all of the sudden.”
Phoebe Primary Care at Northwest is extending hours on Saturday and Sunday.
Officials will consider additional changes to clinic hours as appropriate.
Starting Jan. 14, Phoebe will open a temporary inpatient unit containing 11 additional private rooms.
