ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Progress is being made on improving the internet speed in the Americus business area.
Crews are currently laying fiber optic lines along Highway 49 that will carry the higher speed internet.
Amy Harrelson with Pineland Telephone Cooperative said construction on the first phase will be completed soon.
“It looks like we should complete the first route around the end of March, early April and we should be able to connect people that month of April,” said Harrelson.
This is the first phase of four.
Harrleson said all routes should be finished by this fall.
According to officials, this is a project three years in the making and is a $2 million investment to infrastructure.
With this investment, Americus economic leaders hope this brings more development to the area.
