TIFT COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Family and friends still want to know what happened to 18-year-old Kenyada Mitchell.
“We fighting for justice you feel me,” said the victim’s friends. “We need justice, we need answers. We need something man.”
Mitchell’s mom Vertice R. Smiley Riley says she saw him Wednesday night when she picked him up from work. She took him home and they talked. She says talking to each other was their normal routine. His family says he was just starting to live his life.
“He was in the bathroom taking him a shower getting ready to go meet his girlfriend parents for the first time,” said Smiley Riley. She says the last thing she said to her son was be safe.
“[The] next thing I know, he left, and never did come back,” said Smiley Riley.
The GBI confirms that Tift county 911 was called to a wooded area off Emerson O. Bynes Ave. just before 11 Thursday morning. That’s when authorities say they found Mitchell’s dead body inside a vehicle.
The body was found near J.T. Reddick School and Greenwood cemetery. Authorities confirm that the GBI and the Tift County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the case as a homicide.
“My son was a loving person,” said Smiley Riley. “He loved everybody. He didn’t have no hate in him.”
For now, the family has a lot of unanswered questions.
“I just wanna know what happened. [What] happened that night when he went from my house out here in the world,” said Smiley Riley.
Mitchell's mom said Mitchell had 2 sisters and and was the father of a 1 and 3 year old.
“Tell me something (we want justice) tell me what happened,” said Smiley Riley. “Why did it lead to this end?”
The victim’s mother says she plans to have a funeral next Saturday. If you have any information about the case authorities are asking you to call the GBI or the Tift County Sheriff’s Office.
