CORDELE, GA (WALB) - The Cordele Police Department is investigating an arson that happened Saturday just before noon in the 500 block of West 8th Avenue.
Joseph Akins, 67, was arrested in connection with the crime.
According to a press release from the department, three people were inside the home when the fire was set but no one was hurt and little damage was done to the outside of the home.
The Cordele Fire Department put the fire out quickly, according to the release.
Investigators did not see a motive but believed there was an earlier incident between the suspect and the residents in the home.
“When our officers arrived they had made contact and had obtained information that the neighbor was the one that was likely suspect of what had happened,” said Lt. Andrew Roufs, Cordele Police Dept.
Akins is charged with arson and three counts of aggravated assault.
He is being held in the Crisp County Jail.
