Embracing Boring: Fighting Tigers off to strong start

Halfway through the season, Andrew College has already passed last year’s win total

Andrew College men's basketball rolling off wins

CUTHBERT, GA (WALB) - It’s been a full 40 days since the men’s basketball team at Andrew college has dropped a game.

Their secret sauce is embracing being boring.

The fighting Tigers have rallied off 7 straight wins and are now (13-2) to start the season.

They had a total of just 9 wins all of last year which was the program's inaugural season.

This year they’re under the guidance of head coach Justin Newton.

He’s been getting the team to buy in on the fundamentals which has translated into early success.

“We’re almost boringly simplistic about how we approach the game we don’t change up a lot of what we do so we just like to be really simple and be boring and do the same things over and over and be perfect at those things,” said Newton.

“We have certain game goals that we try and meet every game.”

“Good teams always do the same thing," said the team’s leading scorer (19.3 ppg) Jalin Wimberly. "They never change up. As long as we keep doing the same thing we’ll keep winning.”

Next up, the Fighting Tigers host Albany Tech Saturday afternoon at 3.
