ASU appoints interim chief of police

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany State University has named the new interim chief of police for the ASU Police Department, which went into effect Jan. 1.

Marcus Guess' role will be to maintain a “student-first, community-orientated approach to enforcing state laws and preserving the highest level of safety and security for Albany State,” officials said in a news release.

Guess is a 14-year veteran of the law enforcement field. He has served in several roles at ASU, including chief of police as the commander of the patrol division, chief investigator, lieutenant of police and commander over the internal affairs and training division of the ASUPD.

He has also served as a police officer for the Adel Police Department and a correctional officer for the Florida Department of Corrections and Valdosta State Prison.
