ALBANY, GA (WALB) -A new year means a new set of goals, and education and awareness is the main mission for the Albany Police Department in 2019.
WALB spoke with Chief Michael Persley who outlined what residents can expect and the help they need from the community.
Chief Persley said one thing they will focus on for the year is continuing to educate the community on personal protection of their property and themselves.
He said they will focus on non-violent crimes so that they won’t lead up to dangerous crimes.
The department will also look at concerns surrounding the quality of life as this could help combat more crimes.
APD is working to push their crime prevention and education throughout the year in various communities, schools, and churches.
Chief Persley said they want to get more community groups involved and interact with the police department’s daily operations.
“Lot of ideas that we have, but we do want to reach out to groups more. Whether we support their activities of what they’re doing in the community or other groups,” said Chief Persley.
He also said focusing on non-violent crimes and your quality of life concerns could aid in the decrease of crime.
Chief Persley encourages anyone who would like to partner with the department to educate and bring awareness in the community, to reach out to Albany Police.
