THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - The Thomasville City Council is now operating within their approved 2019 travel budget.
This year’s budget has increased to $25,000 — $5,000 more than budgeted last year.
Councilman Jay Flowers said each council member now has a fixed budget that they have to work within.
Flowers said he thinks this with keep them aware of their spending throughout the year.
“Each individual council member does need to be fully aware of what they’re doing particularly," Flowers said. “And, I think by having that individual budget that does work so that I am much more aware, I am relative to the whole."
Flowers said he spoke with the city manager and he said they’re all discussing what the consequences should be for over spending.
At the moment, they believe they should use their own money if council members surpass their individual $5,000 travel budgets.
