VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, flu activity is higher this year at this point than it was last year at this same time.
One of the many places you can get your flu vaccination is the health department.
The Georgia Department of Public Health wants to remind everyone that if you have not gotten your flu shot for the year, then you shouldn’t wait any longer.
Medical professionals said that with students returning to school in South Georgia, flu activity is expected to increase.
They also said that the most effective way to prevent the flu is by getting your yearly vaccination.
“This is typically our high point of the year. Ladder part of December, early part of January is when we start trending up. We want to get a handle on this before it gets worse,” said Kenneth Lowery, the South Health District epidemiologist.
Typical flu symptoms vary from person to person, but can include cough, runny nose, sore throat and fever.
One of the most distinct flu symptoms is a quick onset of an overall feeling of achiness and discomfort.
The Department of Public Health wants to remind everyone to take preventive measures now to minimize the effects of the flu and stay healthy this season.
