ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Jonathan Sizemore is no longer the executive director at Albany Humane Society.
“We received an email on New Year’s Eve and said that he was resigning and it was effective immediately,” said May Gillespie, humane society board of directors president.
Sizemore served as the executive director for a little over a year, joining the team in September 2017.
Sizemore, who started out as interim executive director and served on the board of directors, said the decision to leave wasn’t taken lightly.
“We made a lot of progress at the humane society,” said Sizemore. “Unfortunately for my family, I felt like I needed to pursue another venture and so I started looking for another job about two months ago.”
The former board member now plans to explore his roots in information technology.
“I’m going back into the world of IT, which I worked in for 11 years,” said Sizemore.
Board members said they’re thankful for Sizemore’s hard work and they want their supporters to know that nothing is going to change, adding that they’ll continue to move the Albany Humane Society forward.
The plan is to post the job opening on their website and other internet job search sites. But the decision won’t be made in haste, board members said.
“We would like to take our time and find the best person for this position,” said Lu Lu Kaufman, executive board of directors vice president.
Board members said they may discuss their next step at an upcoming board meeting.
Members said they want all of their supporters to know that donations are still going to the humane society and for the first time they have support from the National Humane Society.
