VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The investigation into a fire that left a hole in downtown Valdosta is still ongoing.
The owner of Valdosta Furniture and Mattress is still working to recover from a 2-alarm fire that cost him most of his building space and the furniture inside it.
Reportedly, the fire was so large that it took firefighters several hours to put it out.
Valdosta Fire Department Chief James Clinkscales said it was one of the biggest fires Valdosta saw this past year.
“This is one of the biggest, like I said. What made it a big factor was that it was a show room full of mattresses and those are very highly combustible," explained Clinkscales.
Clinkscales said that safety concerns have slowed down the investigation as well. He said there is a danger of portions of the building collapsing while they investigate.
They expect to have a cause for the fire by the end of next week.
