Chain Gang reflects on January second storms

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Many can recall the Albany Chain Gang formed almost immediately after the January 2, 2017 storms.

One member of the organization said they’ve come a long way since then.

A lot of folks affiliated with the Albany Chain Gang themselves experienced damage during the January storms.

They said there is a big difference of volunteers now than it was two years ago, but the need still exists.

The dispatch coordinator for the Chain Gang said this day is a very difficult one to think about.

“Just taking on the cares and concerns of the community is very overwhelming,” said Teresa Knight. “Just seeing how hurt different people are and each individual story at the same time it’s been a blessing to be on the front row seat to some of the miracles that happened. So many people should’ve died in all of these storms.”

She said the organization’s plan for this year is to finalize their 501(c)(3), to be more organized, and to get more volunteers to help complete the hundreds of jobs they have left.
